Dental Implants Treatment Gives You a Reason to Smile, Norcross

A dental implant is a form of treatment which is very effective in getting the original manner of eating and smiling back on one’s face. This involves teeth extraction and then their replacement with implants. It can be done for a single tooth and the entire set of teeth as well. The procedure includes placing a titanium screw and drilling it into the jawbone. The jawbone grows around the titanium implant naturally, and it takes about three to four months for the screw to become firm in its place. A dental crown or cap is placed atop the screw to function as the tooth which the world sees.

Dental implant treatment is permanent. The screws, once placed, are not removed again, even at night. Also, the implants can function throughout the lifetime of a person if they are properly cared for. The dental implants need to be cared for by maintaining good oral hygiene habits. One should brush the teeth at least twice daily to keep them clean. This should be done for at least two minutes each time. Also, dental flossing, once a day, is recommended. The implants need to be shown to the dentist regularly to have some minor adjustments done to them if required.

How are dentures different from implants?

Dentures are usually referred to as a set of false teeth. These are temporary and are removed at night and placed in a jar of cleansing solution into which a cleansing tablet has been added. The dentures are also brushed with this cleansing solution, or with soap or even with toothpaste which is meant for this very purpose. There is a bit of danger involved with dentures. They may fall off accidentally if the person wearing them laughs too loudly. Also, they may crack or snap if the person bites into a food item which is very hard or sticky.

Dentures need to be replaced after every five to seven years since they may become loose or ill-fitting. Also, they can easily be spotted from a distance. Dental implants blend more into the background and are more like the natural teeth of the patient. Dentures are not so, and the facial appearance of the person may change by a bit of wearing dentures. Also, dentures also need to be kept very clean. They need to be checked up by the dentist on a regular basis for professional cleaning and some other work as well. Dentures can be made for the upper or/and lower jaws of the concerned patient. Like mentioned above, they are more like temporary teeth of the person, and one needs to take a good deal of care while wearing them. However, dentures are a bit more cost-effective as compared to dental implants. Thus, one needs to carefully see how much one can spend on dental treatment before deciding upon which option suits one better than the other.
