It's important to know what to do when faced with different dental emergencies. That's why we provide helpful insight to guide you through the time between the incident and your emergency dental appointment. It's best to call our knowledgeable team immediately after experiencing dental trauma so we can address the specific symptoms and walk you through the next steps. Here are some valuable tips to address common dental emergencies:
Knocked-Out Tooth
Pick up the pieces of the tooth, rinse them in lukewarm water, and place them in a glass or container with milk or saline solution. Rinse out your mouth with clean, room-temperature water to wash out debris and germs. If your tooth is intact, you can attempt to gently place it back in the socket on your way to your emergency appointment, or you can wait and let our dental team verify if the tooth can be saved and placed back in the socket.
Bleeding Gums
If your gums are bleeding nonstop, it can indicate a deeper oral health problem that requires attention. You can slow the bleeding by placing clean, soft gauze on the area and gently biting down to hold it in place on your way to our office.
Toothache
Pain in your tooth or jaw can be a symptom of an infection that requires root canal therapy. If you experience constant pain in a tooth or jaw, call our office, and we'll schedule an emergency appointment. You can alleviate the pain with an over-the-counter pain reliever or by wrapping a cold compress in a soft, clean towel and placing it against your cheek near the source of pain.
